The way you choose to decorate your tiny house is largely a matter of preference. Everyone has their own unique sense of style and taste. But how you decorate can have a HUGE impact.
Have you ever noticed how some tiny houses just look and feel bigger than they are? There are certain tiny houses that just seem to look and feel bigger than they are. The following is a list of tips to help you make your space look and feel more spacious than it really is:
- Light – One way to make a tiny house seem bigger is to get as much light into the space as possible. If you’re in the process of building a tiny house, you can keep this in mind and add more windows and skylights to your structure. If you’re like a lot of us and already have a tiny built there are a few things you can do maximize the impact of light on your space. Avoid using heavy window treatments and blinds that may obscure the light coming into your space. Try to keep objects off your window sills to keep the space open to the light.
- Use Color – The color that you choose for your tiny house can have a big impact on how big and open your space feels. Using lighter colors helps. White ceilings reflect a lot of light and draw the eyes up in the space which makes it feel airier and more open. Painting a single law a slightly darker color than the rest of the laws can trick the mind into thinking that a space is bigger than it is. Avoid using dark, heavy colors as they do not look right in a small space.
- Using mirrors – mirrored walls are another way of tricking the mind. Properly placed mirrors can make a space look more open and spacious by doubling the perceived space of a room. One caution though, if you are in a tiny house on wheels, using mirrors can be dangerous and proper precautions must be taken to avoid breaking the glass of the mirror.
- Declutter – In a tiny house you have to make the most of your space. This leads to the using of as much space as possible, which tends to appear cluttering. For this reason, you have to keep your space as decluttered as possible. Extra clutter makes a tiny space look even smaller.
